Quick summary

Current patch decision guide
When to pick Fang, when to avoid them, and how to adapt your build.
Fang is a balanced Farm Marksman who wants to close distance on a chosen target and stick to them. Public guide data shows a build centered on Relentless Blade, Boots of Tranquility, Axe of Torment, used to farm the safe side, scale into late game, and protect priority targets. Pick him when the draft lets Fang reach targets that aren't built around Dun-style answers; avoid when the enemy chains crowd control that stops the engage before damage lands.
Pick Fang when
- The map shape favors gank routes, where mobility translates directly into kills
- Your team can engage first, letting Fang second-wave into low-health targets
- The enemy draft includes Mai Shiranui, Nakoruru, and Zilong, who appear in counter data as matchups Fang can pressure.
Avoid Fang when
- Enemy peel is strong and Fang cannot reach the backline without dying first
- Your team has no primary engage, leaving the cleanup pick with nothing to follow up on
- The enemy already drafted Dun, who counter data identifies as direct answers to Fang.

Build decisions
Default farm path
Public build references for Fang recommend Relentless Blade, Boots of Tranquility, Axe of Torment, Rapacious Bite, Boots of Fortitude, and Doomsday. Use this as the baseline marksman plan before adapting to the enemy draft.
Situational item pivots
Spare options listed in build data include Eternity Blade, Daybreaker's Virtue, Sage's Sanctuary, and Blood Rage. Treat these as situational swaps when the default path is not enough — for example, swapping in defensive items against burst comps or penetration items against stacked armor.
Matchup logic
Versus Dun
Dun is flagged in counter data as a direct answer to Fang. Bait the enemy crowd control before engaging, and route through fog to reach targets without being seen first.
Versus crowd control
Reliable hard control stops Fang's engage before the combo lands. Bait the most threatening control skill before committing Bladestorm, and wait for ally engage to absorb peel.
Synergies
Public synergy data lists Xiang Yu, Liu Shan, and Zhuangzi as strong partners for Fang. Plan engages around Xiang Yu's setup window, then second-engage with Bladestorm.
Common mistakes
- Engaging without follow-up — gap-close gets you to the target, but a solo dive without ally damage trades 1-for-1.
- Engaging first instead of second — cleanup picks lose their value as primary engagers.
- Ignoring Dun on the enemy team when picking fights — counter data flags them as direct answers, so engage timing must respect their cooldowns.
- Auto-attacking through enemy dive instead of repositioning — losing the marksman in early fights collapses the late-game win condition.

“The great detective, at your service!”
Though Fang is of ferali descent, Chang'an took him in with open arms. He's a bit of an oddball but he's also smart and agile, and has the ability to sniff out all kinds of secrets. Once, by chance, Fang came to the honored empress Wu Zetian's aid, but he also saw something he shouldn't have. In the face of questioning by the Chang'an magistrate, Fang was able to use the secret he had chanced upon to save his life. When he was offered a job as Di Renjie's assistant, the prospect of a salary made him more than happy to help maintain the peace in Chang'an.
