Current patch decision guide

When to pick Lian Po, when to avoid them, and how to adapt your build.

Updated 2026-06-04

Lian Po is a balanced Clash Lane Tank who wants to create engage windows with stuns and slows. Public guide data shows a build centered on Lightfoot Shoes, Blazing Cape, Clandestine Cape, used to soak pressure in lane and threaten side objectives. Pick him when the draft lets Lian Po reach targets that aren't built around Jing-style answers; avoid when the enemy is built around percent-HP damage and armor penetration.

Pick Lian Po when

  • The enemy team has multiple high-mobility threats that need to be locked down before they reach your backline
  • Your team needs a primary front-line who can engage on cooldown windows
  • The enemy draft includes Luban No.7 and Marco Polo, who appear in counter data as matchups Lian Po can pressure.

Avoid Lian Po when

  • Your team lacks the follow-up damage to convert your control windows into kills
  • The enemy stacks anti-tank items like armor penetration and percent-HP damage, melting front-liners quickly
  • The enemy already drafted Jing, Li Bai, and Ukyo Tachibana, who counter data identifies as direct answers to Lian Po.

Power spikes

Early game: focus on safe lane phase and tracking jungle pressure before Lian Po's mid-game tools come online.
Ultimate online: Tremor Smash extends control duration, making team fights snowball off a single hit
Late game: Boots of Fortitude, Succubus Cloak, and Overlord's Platemail on the bar means Lian Po can soak commits in 5v5 team fights for his carries.

Build decisions

Default clash lane path

Public build references for Lian Po recommend Lightfoot Shoes, Blazing Cape, Clandestine Cape, Boots of Fortitude, Succubus Cloak, and Overlord's Platemail. Use this as the baseline tank plan before adapting to the enemy draft.

Situational item pivots

Spare options listed in build data include Boots of Resistance, Ominous Premonition, Eye of the Phoenix, Blood Rage, and Sage's Sanctuary. Treat these as situational swaps when the default path is not enough — for example, swapping in defensive items against burst comps or penetration items against stacked armor.

Matchup logic

Versus Jing

Jing and Li Bai are flagged in counter data as a direct answer to Lian Po. Track when the enemy carry buys percent-HP or armor-penetration items and adjust his item path accordingly.

Versus mobility

Dashes and immunity skills bypass Lian Po's control. Force the enemy mobility before committing Tremor Smash, and aim control on stationary targets like channeling carries.

Synergies

Public synergy data lists Alessio, Arli, and Consort Yu as strong partners for Lian Po. Plan engages around Alessio's setup window, then second-engage with Tremor Smash.

Common mistakes

  • Throwing Magma Slam on the front-line tank instead of saving it for backline carries.
  • Building damage items hoping to deal kills, when the team needs the durability that makes you a tank in the first place.
  • Ignoring Jing and Li Bai on the enemy team when picking fights — counter data flags them as direct answers, so engage timing must respect their cooldowns.
  • Forcing solo engages instead of waiting for ally commit — Lian Po's value compounds when the team follows up on engages.

Background

Earthshaker

Zhulu Plateau
“I belong in the heavyweight class!”

Lian Po was born to a relatively wealthy clan in the Southlands, a background that gave him many advantages but also trouble, as neighbors would often raid his home. Only when Lian Po grew old enough to help protect his clan was the situation gradually reversed, as he was elected clan leader and went on to guard the Southlands with his strength. When the Blood Clan invaded, spurred on by his opponent Bai Qi, Lian Po headed to Jixia alone to grow stronger and prove that he could still protect his clan.
