Current patch decision guide
When to pick Meng Ya, when to avoid them, and how to adapt your build.
Meng Ya is a situational Farm Marksman who wants to control space with safe ranged abilities. Public guide data shows a build centered on Boots of Dexterity, Eternity Blade, Shadow Ripper, used to farm the safe side, scale into late game, and protect priority targets. Pick him when the draft lets Meng Ya reach targets that aren't built around Liu Bang-style answers; avoid when the matchup denies the windows his kit needs.
Pick Meng Ya when
- Your team wants to siege objectives where ranged poke whittles down defenders
- Your team needs a primary damage carry that scales with items and team-fight positioning
- The enemy draft includes Mai Shiranui, Pei, and Diaochan, who appear in counter data as matchups Meng Ya can pressure.
Avoid Meng Ya when
- The team fight will happen in cramped jungle spaces where poke ranges are minimized
- The enemy stacks dive and assassins, making it impossible for the marksman to free-cast in fights
- The enemy already drafted Liu Bang, who counter data identifies as direct answers to Meng Ya.

Build decisions
Default farm path
Public build references for Meng Ya recommend Boots of Dexterity, Eternity Blade, Shadow Ripper, Doomsday, Sunchaser, and Daybreaker's Virtue. Use this as the baseline marksman plan before adapting to the enemy draft.
Situational item pivots
Spare options listed in build data include Sage's Sanctuary, Splendor, Destiny, Haste - Sunpool, Overlord's Might, and Mortal Punisher. Treat these as situational swaps when the default path is not enough — for example, swapping in defensive items against burst comps or penetration items against stacked armor.
Matchup logic
Versus Liu Bang
Liu Bang is flagged in counter data as a direct answer to Meng Ya. Position behind the front line, save flash for the dive, and let the support set vision rather than walking forward to look for fights.
Versus hard engage
Meng Ya loses value when forced into close-range fights. Stick with the front line, hold a flash or repositioning skill, and avoid being caught alone in the river.
Synergies
Public synergy data lists Menki, Arthur, and Agudo as strong partners for Meng Ya. Plan engages around Menki's setup window, then second-engage with Missile Mayhem.
Common mistakes
- Spending mana on poke that does not threaten kills, leaving you empty for the actual fight.
- Auto-attacking instead of repositioning when the enemy assassin is missing — losing the marksman loses the fight.
- Ignoring Liu Bang on the enemy team when picking fights — counter data flags them as direct answers, so engage timing must respect their cooldowns.
- Auto-attacking through enemy dive instead of repositioning — losing the marksman in early fights collapses the late-game win condition.
Background
Loose Cannon
“The right mood doubles your firepower!”
Meng Ya always had a prodigious talent for strategy and mechcraft firearms as a child, which he used to come up with many creative battle plans. This often put him at odds with Meng Tian, his strict father and highly orthodox military commander. However, his father's strict upbringing only lit the fuse of his rebelliousness. Finally, a massive argument ended in him packing his unfinished mechcraft cannons and heading for Jixia Academy, alone. Initially seeing the academy as a refuge, he had no idea of the friendships, recognition, and knowledge he would earn by following his own path in life.
