Quick summary

Shouyue is a mid-tier Farm Marksman who wants to output sustained ranged damage. Public guides recommend a build starting with Sparkforged Dagger. Watch for Liu Bang-style counters in the enemy draft.

Current patch decision guide

When to pick Shouyue, when to avoid them, and how to adapt your build.

Updated 2026-06-04

Shouyue is a balanced Farm Marksman who wants to wear down enemies from range before the team-fight engages. Public guide data shows a build centered on Sparkforged Dagger, Boots of Dexterity, Doomsday, used to farm the safe side, scale into late game, and protect priority targets. Pick him when the draft lets Shouyue reach targets that aren't built around Liu Bang-style answers; avoid when the matchup denies the windows his kit needs.

Pick Shouyue when

  • Your team wants to siege objectives where ranged poke whittles down defenders
  • Your team needs a primary damage carry that scales with items and team-fight positioning
  • The enemy draft includes Diaochan, Nakoruru, and Ying, who appear in counter data as matchups Shouyue can pressure.

Avoid Shouyue when

  • The team fight will happen in cramped jungle spaces where poke ranges are minimized
  • The enemy stacks dive and assassins, making it impossible for the marksman to free-cast in fights
  • The enemy already drafted Liu Bang, who counter data identifies as direct answers to Shouyue.

Power spikes

Early game: farm safely behind the support, surviving lane phase to reach the marksman scaling window.
Mana sustain online: poke patterns become repeatable once cooldown reduction and mana regen items come online
Late game: full build online, Shouyue reaches the spike public guides describe — extended fights favor him once items are completed.

Build decisions

Default farm path

Public build references for Shouyue recommend Sparkforged Dagger, Boots of Dexterity, Doomsday, Shadow Ripper, Overlord's Might, and Eternity Blade. Use this as the baseline marksman plan before adapting to the enemy draft.

Situational item pivots

Spare options listed in build data include Bloodweeper, Master Sword, Deepfrost Siege, Frostscar's Embrace, Ravage - Phantom, and Sage's Sanctuary. Treat these as situational swaps when the default path is not enough — for example, swapping in defensive items against burst comps or penetration items against stacked armor.

Matchup logic

Versus Liu Bang

Liu Bang is flagged in counter data as a direct answer to Shouyue. Position behind the front line, save flash for the dive, and let the support set vision rather than walking forward to look for fights.

Versus hard engage

Shouyue loses value when forced into close-range fights. Stick with the front line, hold a flash or repositioning skill, and avoid being caught alone in the river.

Synergies

Public synergy data lists Ata, Dun, and Liu Bang as strong partners for Shouyue. Plan engages around Ata's setup window, then second-engage with Getaway.

Common mistakes

  • Spending mana on poke that does not threaten kills, leaving you empty for the actual fight.
  • Auto-attacking instead of repositioning when the enemy assassin is missing — losing the marksman loses the fight.
  • Ignoring Liu Bang on the enemy team when picking fights — counter data flags them as direct answers, so engage timing must respect their cooldowns.
  • Auto-attacking through enemy dive instead of repositioning — losing the marksman in early fights collapses the late-game win condition.

Background

Longshot

Central Plains
“Another peaceful day at the Great Wall.”

His fellow Great Wall Guards know him as the sharpest marksman in the regiment. Coolheaded and warm in equal measure, he reliably provides cover during battles. Yet during calm times, his sharp eyes will gaze longingly into the distance toward his hometown. When he was little, he was separated from his younger brother, Xuance, during a bandit attack on their village, and Shouyue has always blamed himself for failing to protect him. Shouyue thus waits by the Great Wall, partially in the hope that his younger brother will eventually have sense enough to look for him there.

"Previously, players using Shouyue had a hard time choosing between sniping from a distance and using Basic Attacks at a closer range. Now, we've upgraded his skills to give our players more equipment options. At the same time, with the same set of equipment, players can now mix long-range sniping with Basic Attacks more effectively."
